Judy Kaufmann
receives the Rosalie Citron Ashendorf Award
On May 13th, at the Installation of Officers, The Charlotte Chapter of Hadassah presented the
Rosalie Citron Ashendorf Award, the chapter's mostprestigious award, to Judy Kaufmann. Judy hasworked tirelessly as our Administrative Secretary,and as a member of the Directory team in variouscapacities. When there are new people in town, sheis often a friendly first contact. She reaches out tothe Jewish Community in many ways, teaching MahJongg, volunteering for Jewish Family Services, and various other activities. The Rosalie Citron Ashendorf Award was establishedin 1990 to honor the Charlotte Chapter of Hadassah's first president. The award’s namesake,Rosalie Ashendorf, was the mother of long time member Deane Boxer. The award is presented to those who have shown a passion for Hadassah, been actively involved for a minimum of five years, and may not be given to a seated president. The award is not given every year. Nominations are accepted from the general membership, but the final decision is made by the past recipients. Past recipients are: Phyllis Boxer, Gail Greene, Berta Kaplan, Audrey Madans, Elizabeth Klein, Marsha Smith, Ruth Richardson, Lynda White, Roz Cooper, Ellie Bantit, Debby Rosenberger and Janice Bernstein.

Season Kick – Off Event
August 30, 2010 7 PM
This year’s kick-off meeting will give our members the opportunity to do a mitzvah, learn about our
organization and prepare for the coming holiday season. We will, once again, make a delicious treat to ensure that the people in need in our community have the taste of a Hadassah “speed dating” will help both new and more seasoned members get acquainted with everything Hadassah in Charlotte and in Israel.
Finally, a special guest speaker will inspire us as we mentally prepare for the holiest season in Judaism.
Of course the program is also a great opportunity to see old friends, meet new ones, and catch up with
everyone after the summer break.

Why: To Learn, To Do a Mitzvah and To Be Together
*When the Children of Israel stood at Mount Sinai, G-d asked them if they would accept the
Torah, with all of the laws and rules it contained. They replied “we will do and we will listen.” From
this we learn that Judaism is about actions and not just studying or intentions. Hadassah women
have always been ready to act as healers and supporters of the Jewish people, both here and in Israel.
